Sound, Light and Live Event Technology is an engineering centred but practical based course for those who wish to prepare for a career in the events industry or who have experience of work but now wish to better understand the theory and gain a recognised qualification.
The technology used in events is becoming ever more complex and there is a distinct shortage of skilled engineers and technicians to support and enable live events.
To address these needs, Sound, Light and Live Event Technology includes a broad range of subjects - from lighting technology, audio engineering, video systems, power distribution and rigging to electronics, computing, acoustics, computer aided design and simulation. You will learn the theory and practice of the underlying technology and develop your hands on skills through planning and delivering real live events.
As an engineering course you will study ‘how it works' - learning about the underlying mathematics and electronics in our electronics and computing laboratories. You'll also learn ‘how to work it' - developing professional skills in lighting design, sound engineering and event management and practice in our dedicated production space and in venues around the city. It's this careful blend of theory and practice that creates a high degree of employability and makes our Sound and Light graduates sought after in the events industry.
