The PLASA National Rigging Certificate is an award that will allow riggers to demonstrate that they've attained a professional standard within their chosen rigging discipline.
The Level 2 (Rigger) assessment measures general rigging competency, whilst the assessment for the Level 3 (Supervising rigger) focuses on supervisory elements, with each NRC being awarded on the basis of assessments carried out at a regional assessment centre, and, additionally for Level 3, in the candidate's workplace.
Drawn up to recognised National Occupational Standards in conjunction with Creative and Cultural Skills - the Sector Skills Council for the creative and cultural sectors - the NRC has been developed in direct response to two important factors that now directly affect riggers and their employers. These are the implementation of the Working At Height (2005) regulations and a trend of steadily rising insurance costs for companies and individuals in the sector.
The scheme has been developed by PLASA in close cooperation with the National Rigging Advisory Group. In the case of candidates who are already experienced riggers, the NRC assessment process will take into account evidence of existing experience, including employer references, and will feature additional practical assessments and written questions to assess theoretical knowledge.
Possession of a National Rigging Certificate will demonstrate a recognised, standardised level of competence to employers, making it easier for both employers and employees to match their requirements. A Highway Code-style handbook sets out the essential details on which candidates will be assessed. To register, visit the PLASA Skills website at www.plasa.org/qualificaitons or call +44 (0)1323 524120.
